I looked at many fm/bluetooth transmitrers and at first I was going to try the more expensive one that looks just like this one, but after comparing them I realized that they were the same. Since I don’t really need the extra cable the more expensive one has, I went with this one. I never write reviews, this is my first one, but I have to write one for this item. The pairing was very easy and it is a very simple set up, no cables, nothing. The sound quality was very good for both phone calls and music. By the way, I have an iPhone 4. I can use the device to turn the volume up/down, advance/rewind songs and answer/end calls. I was skeptical of using an fm transmitter, but this has truly surpassed my expectations.

This product is actually offered under three different names here on Amazon so I am not sure who actually makes this. This version and the one with over a hundred reviews are both around 50 dollars. There is a third one that is around 30 dollars.

I chose this model because it was the only one fulfilled by Amazon, and let’s face it, their customer service and return policy are pretty much unbeatable for online shopping. Plus, I am a prime member so shipping was free.

Okay, so on to the device itself. This device works very well. FM reception is as good as any I have heard. I do hear mild to moderate hiss during silent/low-volume/soft parts of music or talk. When the speech or music reaches any kind of volume the hiss disappears (or is masked by the louder volume). It is easy to find a station, and the device remembers the station when turned off. This allows for an easier start up, and I can program the station into my car radio. My phone (Mytouch 4G) automatically pairs with the device as long as bluetooth is enabled on my phone. Music played on the device sounds full and stereo imaging is decent. I love being able to pause and skip ahead using the devices buttons while listening to Slacker Radio (which does not allow rewind).

The speaker phone works fairly well. I am told by people I have called that the quality is better than most speakerphones but not as good as direct/hands on use. The call quality on my end sounds great.

I love that this device has the ability to charge my phone. I often put my phone in a cradle and use it for GPS and music (using Slacker Radio). Listening to music requires my 4G connection and bluetooth. Using GPS, 4G streaming, and bluetooth would suck the battery down quickly if the phone were not plugged in. Many of the other bluetooth FM transmitters have to be charged and offer no phone charging. This can be overcome using an 12v DC outlet splitter, but that is just too cumbersome for me.

Pros: A trifecta of coolness with bluetooth FM transmitting, usable speakerphone, and phone charging.
Cons: would love some sort of affordable dash mount version of this device which would eliminate the goose-neck. However, this limitation at this price point does not warrant the reduction of a star.

This is the best there is for the price. I moved to AZ for the summer – and I need to drive an old Mazda truck all day every day. With no desire to invest in a CD player with bluetooth, I decided to give these little devices a try.

    I ordered this one first:
Plan-B High-End Portable Bluetooth LCD Car Kit With FM Transmitter And SD Card Reader MP3 Player-Mounts On Steering Wheel
    [...]

It worked well. The transmition wasn’t that bad to stations that had low signal (88.1). But very often (once every 15min. or so) it would the music would stop for about 1 second. Yes I know… that’s just 1 second… well… I’m listening to music non stop in the car and it actually did become a big deal. The other thing is that the controllers wouldn’t respond right away to my command. I would have to hit “Next” once, wait… and if it didn’t skip the song I would have to press it again, and then wait… and then if it still didn’t work I would try again… and so on… sometimes it would take me 4 tries to get it through. Pretty annoying… it was impossible to have a phone conversation on it. I could hear the other person fine, but EVERYONE that I talked to said that it was REALLY noisy from my side. I was often on the freeway and I know that that doesn’t really help with the noise but either way… it was no good. It took me about 40min. to figure out how set the thing up on my steering wheel. I couldn’t believe it took me that long. I usually figure things out pretty fast! But no… this thing took me forever! A few weeks later I had to take it off for some reason and guess what… I couldn’t figure out how to put it back. Returned it (not cuz I couldn’t put it back, but because of the other flaws).

    Then I tried this one:
Premium Bluetooth Car Kit FM Transmitter and Hands-Free Calling With Steering Wheel Remote Control
    [...]

Opened it, plugged it in, it connected to my phone (Droid 2 Global) right away but it was not transmiting anything to the radio station i picked. I tried multiple times but it didn’t work. It’s funny because the remote (you attach it to the steering wheel) did work. Due to no FM Transmition, I returned it.

Then I tried this one (same as above but from different carrier hoping the FM Transmitter would work).
GSI Super Quality Bluetooth Wireless In-Car FM Modulator-Transmitter With Gooseneck Mount for MP3, MP4, iPod, CD, DVD Players And Bluetooth Mobile Phones – SD Memory Card Slot And USB Port – LCD Display – Steering Wheel Remote Control
    [...]
FM Transmitter did work, but remote control didn’t. I used it for a while and it was ok but… The LCD screen was quite ugly… I didn’t get why they had a yellow line on top. It was kind of a bummer not having the remote working… so I decided to return it and try another one.

THIS ITEM WAS MY LAST TRY! And wow… I’m so glad I tried this one! It connects to my phone pretty fast (and has a beep to show that it connected). The sound quality is great! Really really really good… even the phone convs… I have to talk a little loud but they can hear me well if I don’t have the AC on high (cuz it hits the mic). If you long press the center button, it auto searches for the least used stations (awesome feature). If you press it once, you can change the volume (which is also good – the only not so good thing about that is that when you turn it off and on, it goes back to default volume 20, but I’ve found that 25 is better). The Skip, Back, and Pause buttons work well enough. There are sometimes where I need to press it a second time but it does work most of the time. Way better than the other devices for sure. The Call and HangUp buttons work great as well. Other than it not being able to remember the default volume when turning it back on, the only thing that I wish this did was to have the International Staion 87.9, 87.7. The lowst is 88.1 which does work most of the time, but I do now that 87.9 and 87.9 would work better. That’s the only real feature they forgot to include in this. Another nice thing is that it has a power button. So if you are in a car where having it off doesn’t turn the C. Lighter, then you can turn it off manually. This was by far the best option. I never even thought about returning this one after all the junk I went through with the other ones. This was BY FAR the best option. Paid $47 at the time with free-2-day-shipping from Amazon Prime. Would HIGHLY recommend it. Very simple and easy to use. And the best thing about it, it works. I would give it a 4 star rating due to not having the International Stations and some other things I mentioned, but this is SO FAR ahead than the competition, that it def. deserves a 5 star.
